Living Hotel Großer Kurfürst Berlin – Your home away from home on the banks of the Spree

Big city meets big heart here. Like a mirror of the city, equally unassuming and a little rough in its outward appearance, it reveals its true Berlin charm and chic on the inside, which immediately becomes apparent in the seven-storey lobby. The retro-style lobby, reception, workspace, bar and TV lounge flow into one another in a seemingly natural way. And above it all, like a patron saint, “towers” the eponym of the building, the Great Elector, as an XXL-sized sculpture.

The rooms are cleverly designed, functional and cosy at the same time, so you can easily feel at home. Whether you’re staying in a clearly structured business room or a spacious executive apartment, comfort meets thoughtful amenities with complimentary welcome drinks in the minibar, Meissen tiles in the bathrooms and a feature that the hotel group pioneered in Germany over 40 years ago: serviced apartments, i.e. hotel rooms and apartments with fully equipped kitchens – particularly smart and pleasant if you are travelling with children, staying in the city for a longer period of time on business or simply don’t want to go to a restaurant or out into the city every morning or evening.

The 15 allergy-friendly rooms, which have been specially designed for guests who suffer from increasing environmental pollution or allergies, are also particularly smart. Filtered air instead of pollen, roller blinds instead of curtains, hypoallergenic care instead of a cocktail of fragrances, allergy-friendly bed linen instead of furniture textiles – a little refuge where you can breathe deeply. And every morning, you can look forward to a breakfast that takes you, your needs and any food intolerances into account.

This is how the Living Hotel manages to combine modern city proximity with genuine moments of well-being – without any frills, but with a smile in every detail.

Directly opposite, also in a prime location on Friedrichstraße, is the Living Hotel Berlin Mitte. The hotel is the little sister of the Großer Kurfürst, but once a year it plays a particularly important role. Since 2023, the hotel has been transformed into a “trainee hotel” for six weeks every autumn.

In this flagship project, 14 trainees from the hotel chain, starting in their second year of training, have the opportunity to manage the Living Hotel Berlin Mitte independently and autonomously for six weeks and to get to know everyday hotel life from a new perspective while still in training. The third round of trainee hotels will start in October, and after the first two years, it is clear to see how much new knowledge and self-confidence the trainees have gained when they return to their home hotels – a living example of how much Living Hotels cares about promoting young talent and personalities.
