Three exceptional Rieslings, one top cuvée
“Unser Aufbruch” consists of equal parts Rieslings from the VDP.Grossen Lagen Gräfenberg (Rheingau) from Robert Weil, Frauenberg (Rheinhessen) from Battenfeld-Spanier and Hipping (Rheinhessen) from St. Antony. When tasting the wine, its components can be surmised. The deep minerality and weightless elegance of the Gräfenberg Riesling meet the fine notes of citrus fruit, apple and cucumber peel of the sparse Frauenberg Riesling. The cuvée is rounded off by the typical flavour of Hipping Riesling. “From our point of view, the “Unser Aufbruch” Riesling is much more than the sum of its parts,” says Dirk Würtz from St. Antony. “The result is an independent top wine that builds a bridge between the Rheingau and Rheinhessen. Here, excellence flows together on both sides of the great river.”
Wine label by Bernd Zimmer
With Bernd Zimmer, the three wineries were able to win over one of the most important contemporary artists for the project. His painting “Constellation” adorns the label of the wine. It shows planet-like round shapes – they float lightly in a cosmos and use their gravity to attract each other. For Dirk Würtz, Wilhelm Weil and H.O. Spanier, the work symbolises “the departure into a new, exciting cosmos in which we stand together in solidarity.”
