In 2009, the small alpine town of Bruneck in the Pustertal Valley was named "Italy's most liveable small town ". Italy's most liveable small town " in 2009 and boasts historic buildings, cafés, wine bars and its proximity to the mountains. The 4-star Hotel Petrus is located in the Reischach district of Bruneck, at the foot of the Kronplatz. The family business has been run by the Aichner family for four decades. Today, the three sisters - Christina, Brigitte and Daniela - are responsible for the hotel. Brigitte is a trained sommelier and gourmet, Christina coordinates the hotel operations and Daniela is at reception or works behind the scenes in marketing.

With its curved façade, the Hotel Petrus Petrus naturally blends in with the Kronplatz mountain massif. Guests have an unobstructed view of the Dolomites from here. In the two in-house restaurants, one of which has been honoured by Gault Millau, a culinary journey through South Tyrolbegins. Most of the fruit and vegetables come from their own garden, which the parents of the three sisters, Gerti and Hans, tend and nurture with passion.

The spacious spa area with a 25-metre indoor-outdoor pool and five saunas offers regional and individual wellness treatments. If you want to relax while knitting, grab the colourful knitting kit available in the wellness area. The three Petrus sisters have plenty of creative ideas: these can be found in the spa as well as throughout the hotel and the Petrus offers. For example, there is the sewing wall with colourful yarn that guests can take from the hotel wall and mend holes in their clothes or the Secret Picnic, a kind of treasure hunt that leads to secret places in the area where a lovingly filled picnic basket is waiting.

Excellent and regional: food drink

It has always been important to the Aichners that the family gathers around the table to eat together. That’s why the family gathers around the large table every lunchtime. To ensure that everyone stays seated at the table for dinner and breakfast and enjoys good food and conversation, there is no buffet at Hotel Petrus – all dishes are served. What South Tyrol has to offer is served on the plate. The quality of the products takes centre stage: much of the food is homemade, the kitchen team focuses on natural, regional cuisine with organic products and local producers. Produce from the hotel’s own garden is also used in the hotel’s kitchens. Hans Aichner looks after the family’s vegetable garden at the Lechnerhof. Here he grows herbs, lettuce, radishes and many other types of vegetables that are used in the restaurants at Hotel Petrus. In summer, guests can visit the garden and look over the shoulder of the senior boss and hobby gardener.

The hotel’s own gourmet restaurant Kaminstube was awarded two toques by Gault Millau with two toques and received 88 out of 100 Falstaff Travel points . points. Head chef Hannes Baumgartner creates first-class South Tyrolean specialities. Here, hearty Tyrolean cuisine meets the lightness of Mediterranean influences.

Once a week , the chef invites guests to a tasting menu. Brigitte Aichner , a qualified sommelier , gives recommendations on suitable South Tyrolean wines and explains the specialities of the 120 varieties in the hotel ‘s wine cellar. This also includes the optimum drinking temperature of the wines, which is always guaranteed thanks to the wine cellar between the dining room and bar.
