With its largest collection exhibition to date, the Kunstmuseum celebrates its 25th anniversary. Around 100 works by 31 artists are presented on almost the entire exhibition area of the museum – from modern classics to new acquisitions of contemporary art. The Fondation has one of the world’s most important collections of modern art.
To mark the anniversary, the Swiss museum Fondation Beyeler in Riehen near Basel is giving an insight into its many treasures: it is presenting around 100 works from its holdings, from classical modernism to impressionism and new acquisitions of contemporary art.
Major works by Vincent van Gogh, Claude Monet, Pablo Picasso, Henri Matisse, Alberto Giacometti, Mark Rothko, Andy Warhol and Louise Bourgeois, for example, are juxtaposed with positions by contemporary artists such as Marlene Dumas, Felix Gonzalez-Torres, Tacita Dean and Rachel Whiteread. The exhibition thus offers a unique opportunity to experience the Fondation Beyeler’s collection in all its impressive quality and depth.
This anniversary exhibition is enriched by the integration of hyperrealistic sculptures by the eminent American artist Duane Hanson (1925–1996). He is one of the most influential representatives of post-war American sculpture and is considered the founder of hyperrealism within Pop Art. From the late 1960s onwards, the artist created life-size human figures that fascinate with their almost lifelike realism.
The anniversary exhibition can be seen until 08.01.2023 .
